In 1977, David Selby appeared in the television movie Telethon. As the title suggests, the film focused on events involving the cast and crew of a Las Vegas telethon. The ensemble cast included Red Buttons, Janet Leigh, Polly Bergen, Lloyd Bridges, Kent McCord, Eve Plumb, and Jill St. John.

Roy Hansen, played by David, shows up to ask telethon host Marty Rand, played by Red Buttons, for some cash to pay off some debts. Unable to pay what he owes, Hansen unwillingly becomes embroiled in a murder-for-hire scheme.
